San José Mayor Matt Mahan will be available for interviews today to discuss Governor Newsom’s summit on Mental Health Services Act Reform (MHSA) that will be occurring at 10:30 a.m. this morning. Mayor Mahan will join Big City Mayors, legislators, labor leaders and mental health advocates to discuss MHSA reform and modernization, which, if passed, would provide the resources needed to build 10,000 new beds across community-based and other residential settings to help Californians with serious mental illness and substance use disorders get the housing and care they need. “Consigning folks who suffer from severe mental health challenges and substance use disorders to languish untreated on our streets is the antithesis of compassion,” said San José Mayor Matt Mahan. “Governor Newsom’s plan will modernize our approach to behavioral health, ensuring vital clinical and housing assistance for those most in need.” |
